West Mayo possesses some of the most spectacular beaches found anywhere in Europe. Five minutes from the Croagh Patrick Centre is Bertra Beach, a favourite walking spot for local residents and visitors alike. Closer to Louisburgh is Old Head, which offers a beautiful beach for bathing and a breathtaking cliff walk along its higher elevations. West Mayo is proud to have the largest number of blue flag beaches in all of Ireland, a designation awarded by the European Community for beaches conforming to high standards of cleanliness and visitor amenities.
