Knock Shrine

Croagh Patrick is not the only revered pilgrimage site located in Co. Mayo. Forty-five minutes east of the holy mountain, one finds Knock Shrine, where fifteen people of varying ages witnessed the Apparition of the Virgin Mary, in 1879. More than one and a half million pilgrims visit Knock Shrine each year. Also located in Knock is the Knock Folk Museum which relates the story of the Apparition and presents it in the context of the traditions and customs of that time.
