Amber, blue and black glass beads dated to 200 B.C. discovered in archaeological excavation 1995


500 A.D.

Saint Patrick's vigil on Croagh Patrick 441 A.D.


750 A.D.

Oratory radio carbon dated to 430 A.D - 890 A.D.


1000 A.D.

Dispute between Archbishops of Tuam and Armagh over ownership of Teampall Phádraig on the summit.
Pope decides in favour of Tuam in 1216 A.D.
Croagh Patrick plundered  1079 A.D.


1250 A.D.

30 pilgrims killed by lightning 17 march 1113 A.D.


1500 A.D.

Indulgence granted by Pope Eugene IV to penitents who visited Croagh Patrick 1432A.D.
Murrisk Abbey founded nearby 1457 A.D.
Ruins of the Abbey still to be seen today.


1750 A.D.

Pope Paul V granted an indulgence to visitors to the church on the Reek 1610 A.D.
First Ordnance Survey map recording pilgrimage practices 1838 A.D.
Father Stephens builds a  temporary church 1883 A.D.
The present church is built on the summit 1905 A.D. It was extended in 1961.


2000 A.D.

President Mary Robinson unveils the National Monument to the famine 1997. 
Croagh Patrick Visitor Centre opened 2000A.D.
