Westport House Westport House is owned and lived in by the Browne family, descendents of the people who built it.. It has always been used as the primary family residence. The estate in which the house stands is spectacularly beautiful. From the west windows you can view Clew Bay and the Atlantic Ocean with Clare Island fifteen miles to sea. To the south, Croagh Patrick sits on the horizon and to the front of the house the Carrowbeg River runs into the lake and down to the quay. During the summer months the house and its treasures are open to the public, there is a small zoo in the grounds and several other attractions to entertain its visitors, including the "flume ride", swan boats and the "slippery dip".
